Yamaha YZF R15- 150cc

Yamaha YZF R15 150cc

Yamaha entering the 150cc range of sport bikes is getting bigger by the day, the new motorcycle would as the story go’s be the Yamaha YZF-R15 a 150cc full fairing motorcycle, with the highest horsepower engine (22hp) in its class at a dry weight of just 120kilo.

If the rumors are correct, then Yamaha will take the crown in the 150cc range from the Honda CBR-150R. The Yamaha YZF-R15 is supposed to be a four-stroke, liquid cooled single cylinder, 4-valve SOHC, 149.8cc engine with oil-cooling and electric fuel injection.

To quote an insiders at Yamaha the Yamaha YZF-R15 would be a real R-series and is packed with Grand Prix technology. The Yamaha YZF-R15 will deliver stunning R-Series styling and exhilarating sports performance. A highly sporty constant mesh, 6-speed transmission system, with Yamaha own wet sump (Yamalub) lubrication system.

The chassis is a high tensile steel deltabox design, familiar to what we seen with the Yamaha YZF-125 and the Yamaha GP250 bike. The rumor of the Yamaha YZF-R15 tells that this radical, high-revving, fuel-injected 150cc is the work of the same engineers who created our YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 supersport bikes and the YZF-R15 is capable to deliver stunning 150cc performance.

R1 is inspired from M1, Yamaha’s YZF R15 is developed to imitate R1 in every aspect. Yes, you can expect the exceptional motorcycling experience in the R15. In Yamaha’s term YZF R15 150cc is a machine, like all other Yamaha R series , that comes with racing DNA and the spirit of competition living in every component.

YZF R1 YZF R15

YAMAHA release.the 150cc engine which powers the YZF R15 is the India’s first 150cc liquid cooled engine. Yamaha has brought lot of advanced technologies which are usually used in higher displacement engines for this 150cc mill. Here are few highlights of YZF R15’s hi-tech engine.

YZF R15 makes use of DiASil (Die-casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinder. The DiASil Cylinder is an all-aluminum cylinder made possible by an exclusive Yamaha aluminum forging technology. Because it uses a 20% silicon aluminum alloy, it is possible to create a cylinder wall that is so hard and durable that it eliminates the need for a conventional steel cylinder sleeve. And, because the cylinder is all aluminum, it has excellent heat dissipation qualities (cooling capacity is improved by 60% and reduces engine weight (by 30%) at the same time.

YZF R15 makes use of forged piston (India’s first) which enables lighter piston design and excellent power developement.

YZF R15’s 4-valve combustion chamber adopts centrally mounted spark plug and six hole type injector which leads to path breaking performance.

A compact radiator cools the engine to maximize stablity and performance.

Similar to the R1, Yamaha has adopted a six speed transmission for its new 150cc YZF R15. Optimized ratios will help you to keep the motor singing in the high-rpm range throughout all the gears.

look the dimensions of the monster. YZF R15 must be the most compact bike in its class. It’s overall length is 1070mm, overall width is 670mm and its wheels base is 1290mm. Since sporty YZF R15 is shorter too and its height is just 1070mm. YZF R15 150cc features F 80/90 -17 inches tyres in the front and 100/80-17 inches tyres in the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless.

New YAMAHA FZ 150cc

Guys
Its
time
to
rock

Yamaha introduced four new models at the Auto Expo. The models are Gladiator type SS and RS (125cc), YZF R15 and FZ (150cc). With this Yamaha has unleashed its strategic intent to offer product line that demonstarates the global yamaha image and live up to the true Yamaha DNA i.e. performance, innovation and design. We made a report already on YZF R15 (150cc), here is few details on Yamaha’s another 150cc FZ which will be launched around Diwali this year. Unlike the YZF R15 ( sports bike) this one is a macho street fighter. FZ 150cc is inspired from FZ1000cc bike. Also unlike the YZF R15, FZ 150 will have only an air cooled engine but that means it is friendly to your wallet.

Yamaha will blow off every other bikes manufactured in India with the new 150cc. Yamaha will christen this bike as YZF R15 and will score first -in-class/ first-in-indian bikes credits such as full fairing, front and rear disc, monoshock suspension system at the rear and twin lights. But the real attraction of the Yamaha’s 150cc R15 will be its four stroke, oil cooled,4-valve, liquid cooled and Fuel injected (FI) engine. The R15’s 150cc engine would develop maximum power in the range of 20-22bhp (if true, will make it more powerful than Karizma and Pulsar 220cc DTS-FI). Above all, Yamaha’s 150cc R15 will zoom past 60km/hr in just 3 second and 100km/hr in 9 seconds. Top speed of R15 will be around 145km/hr and it will consume a litre of petrol to go for 35-40km.

Yamaha might launch a 150 cc in 2008

Yamaha might launch a 150 cc in 2008..!! And it might be a model which is available in Indonesia..!!

According to Economic Times, Yamaha Motors has finally made comments on it's plans of launching a 150 C.C Motorcycle. The new 150 C.C Yamaha would probably be showcased in the upcoming Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi and launched by mid 2008.

According to the Economic Times the 150 C.C engine would have 4 valves and should produce around 14 bhp. Also the bike is expected to have sporty looks similar in line of the Yamaha R1.

150 CC Yamaha V-ixion

The above specification might just be similar to a Yamaha product that has been recently launched in Indonesia called the V-ixion. The Yamaha V-ixion is a 150 C.C motorycle. My hunch is that the 150 C.C model planned for India might be based on the same V-ixion model available in Indonesia.

Technical Specification of the 150 C.C Yamaha Vixion...

"The legendary Yamaha RX100 used to develop its maximum power at 8500 rpm and its Maximum Torque at 7500 rpm which is exactly the same rpm at which the V-ixion develops its Maximum Power and Torque resectively..!!"

So far so good but the pricing seems to be a bit high to what Indians are used to in this 150 C.C segment. Economic times have quoted a figure of Rs 80,000-90,000 for this new 150 C.C Yamaha. Even the price of the V-ixion is Rp. 18,900,000 In Indonesian currency. Which is about Rs. 85,000 (In Indian Currency)..!!

So we can see that so far there is a stong suggestion that India might get the V-ixion as its 150 C.C offering from Yamaha.

From the specs of the V-ixion it is obvious that it is inclined more towards performance. Engines with 4 valves per cylinder generally of rev happy nature and produce maximum power at a high RPM range compared the usual 2 valves per cylinder engines. The liquid-cooled engine would help to keep the engine cool at high temperatures. The Monoshock and the delta frame would just go to enhance the sporty handling of the motorcycle.

Guess what..?? The legendary Yamaha RX100 used to develop its maximum power at 8500 rpm and its Maximum Torque at 7500 rpm; which is exactly the same rpm at which the V-ixion develops its Maximum Power and Torque resectively..!! Also with just 114 Kg kerb weight and with around 15.09 PS of power, the V-ixion has the potential of being the performance king among the 150 C.C's and might also pose some serious questions at the Pulsar 180.

But if Yamaha does really have the V-ixion in its mind for India, then I would like to see a few changes in it.

  • Wider Rear Tyre instead of its 90/90 rear

  • A bit more muscular styling

  • Maybe a fairing with Digital Speedometers

  • And yes, a lesser price

Till now virtually every bike enthusiast in the country has been complaning on why Yamaha does not have any 150 C.C in its Indian arsenal. Now would you guys be interested in the V-ixion if Yamaha decides to bring it in India..??
